  • Dance, as experience, enables new forms of expression and communication, enabling the student to discover their body language, which contributes to the learning/teaching process.
  • It is important for Dance to be seen as art and to go beyond the traditional idea that it is only related to physical and mechanistic aspects.
  • It is an art that opens perspectives, helps the understanding of being in the present in a more poetic, more sensitive and more meaningful way to compose the vision of a conscious education.
  • The integration between the different modalities of dance, worked by the IORM, the performing arts, music, plastic arts and literature, instigates the student’s action and reflection about him/herself, about the reality in which he/she lives, opening up a range of better alternatives for the future.
  • The richness of working with art lies in the possibility of uniting different subjects of everyday life and being able to make them in a way that awakens in students a different and more critical look at their relations with the world.

Our Shows

The Wizard of Oz

The Wizard of Oz, a classic of the cinema, had a production worthy of the main dance circuits and was presented by Dance Workshop during the last months of 2016, in Orlândia, Miguelópolis and Guaíra. It was the 15th show of the Dance Workshop, a project from the Oswaldo Ribeiro de Mendonça Institute – IORM, and a realization from the Ministry of Culture, IORM and Josy Ribeiro de Mendonça Arts and Crafts. The Show was the result of one year of hard work from the students and educators of Dance Workshop that together built the characters. The students from Dance Workshop participated in classes of ballet, jazz, contemporary dance, theater and literature. Marcos Pavel, a professional, signed the scenic make-up and brought to life the main characters of the Show.

The Beauty and the Beast

Dance Workshop presented, in Orlândia, Miguelópolis and Guaíra, its version of “The Beauty and the Beast”. The show included also “Divertissement”, gathering five different choreographies. In Orlândia, the students painted on Dance Workshop walls scenes and characters related to the show. In Miguelópolis, the students participated in the creation of the play with the objective of stimulating the imagination, companionship and discipline. Based on the story, the students created new lines, and with technical guidance, divided themselves to be directors, producers and actors, recreating the fairy tale. In Guaíra, the main activity for the students of Dance Workshop was around questions and answers about the film.

Querença

The trajectory of the show Querença, started in 2014 by Dance Workshop, continued in 2015 doing its rounds in public spaces of Orlândia, Guaíra and Miguelópolis. Querença is about going back in time, based on the present time, provoking the reunion of the regional community with its roots and common identity. The presence of people and the manifestations of admiration were the common ground of the presentations. In an artistic format, the urban intervention told the saga of the residents who helped to build the towns in the region of Alta Mogiana. It was a cultural, historic and affective rescue of the recent past of these towns, put together with dance, music and theater, occupying the streets, resulting in going back in time using a daring and innovative esthetics.
